Events Calendar 2011
Wessex League events -The next event is the Wessex 600RES for powered thermal gliders on
16th July (Saturday). All members are welcome to come and watch and help out with
running the competition. Well worth it to see something different at our field. The actual competition only takes up a few 15 minutes slots during the day, so it will not affect your
normal flying. Don't be shy. Go to http://www.wessexaml.co.uk/.
Chesil Beach Fly In - this is on Saturday 23rd July (rather earlier than last year). Same
format as usual applies. All welcome to go and fly under Chesil's normal club rules. Proof of
BMFA membership required. Also, if you go to the website http://www.chesilmfc.com , you
will see that on 24th June, the Chesil Club are running a fly-a-thon to raise funds for Help For
Heroes.
Open Fly-In weekend 2011 - this will be run on the weekend of 20th / 21st August. The
format will be the same as last year. We need members to volunteer to help with parts of this
event - running a BBQ, Tx tent, raffle etc. Please contact Gordon Mignano if you want to help.
Note that this is just a normal weekend's flying when guests from other clubs will be staying
over and flying. Normal club rules apply, so we hope that all Falcons members will want to come
down, fly and see some different planes and pilots.
Working Weekend
There is enough odds and ends work needs doing around the site that we will run a working
weekend on Sunday 31st July. The work we aim to complete is:
Finish staining the tractor shed. Finish staining the front of the clubhouse.
Lay paving in front of the clubhouse. Install exhaust duct on generator.
Clean and weed the pits. Install guttering on clubhouse.
Strim the weeds etc……
Club Fly for Fun Competitions.
Thermal gliding - we intend to run a number of rounds of a Wessex League type thermal
glider event. This entails a climb for 45 seconds under power, then glide, last plane down wins.
The planes will be to the same rules as the Wessex League - details of the planes and where
you can find parts, can be found at http://www.wessexaml.co.uk. Suffice to say they are
simple 600 type electric gliders, all to the same specification, so the pilots' skill is the key.
Gordon Mignano is kindly acting as supply officer for these gliders - so contact him if you
want an easier route to gathering all the parts together.
We are resurrecting the club fly for fun competition this year. The organiser is Robin Caswell.
o 9/10th July - Ground racing and gliders.Having flown in these competitions over the years, my advice is that you just turn up with
o 13/14th August - builders trophy and gliders.
o 11th September - pylon racing and gliders.
whatever you have got and have a go and have fun. Having a go at all the events means you have the best chance of winning a shiny trophy at the end of the year.
